Several large-scale assessments in Germany, e.g. the German National Assessment Study and the German National Educational Panel Study, measure the scientific competency of students at the end of secondary school. The goal of the present study was to assess the dimensional equivalence and the scale equivalence of their test scores with the aim of linking the scales of both studies. For this purpose, a linking study was conducted with N = 678 students who worked on science items from both studies in a single group design. The analyses showed a high similarity of the NEPS and LV test instruments with regard to the factorial structure of the data and the distribution of the test scores. The linking was performed using equipercentile equating and showed a high consistency between the two studies in the distribution of the test scores and also in the assignment of students to the proficiency levels of the German National Assessment Study.
